About the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme is a federal government funded program designed to connect older people on a Home Care Package or living in Residential Aged Care Facilities to their local communities and reduce social isolation.

About the Role

Aged Care Visitor volunteers are matched with an older person and visit them at least once a fortnight. To excel in this role, volunteers should possess characteristics such as patience and compassion, as well as listening and communication skills.

Visitors can just have a cup of tea and a chat, sit together to watch a movie or a sporting game, or supporting the older person to participate in activities. You may also like to be creative and work together on activities like games, craft or reading.

About You

You will be kind, outgoing and love to have a good yarn. We are seeking volunteers who are able to make an ongoing commitment of at least 2 hours a fortnight.

You will require a current South Australian Driver's licence and your own transport to and from visits.

You will also be required to, or be willing to undergo a DHS Aged Care Sector Screening Check or a National Police Check, and a DHS Working With Children Check. Some residential aged care facilities may also require you to have a current flu vaccination.

Volunteers are given comprehensive support from experienced ACVVS Coordinators. Your Coordinator will assist you to obtain a police check, match you with an older person, resolve any issues, provide guidance and resources, and check-in regularly.
