Open Doors Youth Service provides support to young people with diverse genders, bodies and sexualities. We support young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Pansexual, Sistergirl or Brotherboy (LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl & Brotherboy) aged 12-24 across South East Queensland. At Open Doors, we value participation, respect, identity, diversity, and empowerment.

Open Doors Youth Service relies on volunteers to bring diversity, experience, maturity and fun to our groups and events. We can provide great opportunities for skill building, professional and social development and giving back to the community.

We are looking to fill multiple general and identified volunteer positions in early 2023 and are taking expressions of interest for a variety of roles.

There are numerous volunteering opportunities with Open Doors, including:

  • Social group engagement: supporting the team to deliver and facilitate social groups for young people on a rostered basis

  • Events and workshop facilitation: ad-hoc or project-based support for events such as Queeriosity, Pride Fair, or school visits

  • Identified roles: specific, skilled roles for transgender, First Nations and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse applicants

  • Administration support: non-client-facing positions working alongside the ODYS case management team

Requirements:

  • Must be aged 25 years or older

  • Must hold or be able to obtain a Working With Children Card (Blue Card)

  • Must be able to commit to a volunteer contract/roster

  • Current COVID-19 vaccinations

  • Basic understanding of LGBTIQAP+ terminology, language, barriers and intersectionality

  • A team player who is confident interacting with young people, community members, stakeholders and/or public speaking

  • Ability to work autonomously, in a reliable and trustworthy manner

Desirable:

  • Prior experience working or volunteering with young people aged 12-24

  • Prior experience working or volunteering with the LGBTIQAP+ community

  • First Aid and CPR training

  • Current National Police Check

  • Valid Driver’s Licence
