Volunteer Bike Project

About the program The Bike Project is a community-based program to support young people currently involved or at risk of contact with the justice system, with a structured short-term program that engages participants through basic bike mechanic skills whilst connecting with a network of services and supports for sustainable change. The aim of the project is to engage participants in a pro social activity in their local community to build transferable skills, connect with positive role models, and build pathways to employment or education.

About the role The Volunteer—Bike Project is based in Frankston and provides support to the participants of the Bike Project. The Volunteer will primarily provide practical support in teaching participants how to disassemble and reassemble bicycles, but will also have some administrative duties, such as monitoring attendance and taking stock of tools and parts. Being a Volunteer in the Bike Project involves providing nonjudgmental support to young people in an environment that is accessible, non-threatening and safe. Key tasks: • Support participants to disassemble and reassemble bicycles. • Teach basic bicycle mechanics to participants. • Be a positive role model. • Ensure accurate records are kept of attendance. • Monitoring behaviour, attendance and ensuring participation by attendees • Take stock and account of tools, bicycles, and spare parts. • Any other relevant activities
