WIRES Wildlife Volunteer (wildlife rescue, transport and immediate care)

WIRES is looking for volunteers to join their local WIRES volunteer community to attend rescues, contain sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, transport them urgently to local veterinary clinics and provide immediate care for up to 24 hours. No experience necessary as training is provided (via the WIRES Rescue and Immediate Care Course) to learn the basics, including best-practice rescue and handling techniques, transportation requirements and immediate care considerations for native species in need.

Training

The WIRES Rescue and Immediate Care Course costs $125 & comprises of an online theory component and workshop component, which can be completed via a blended format (online theory + face-to-face training), or completely online. Upon completion, you will become a WIRES member, assisting in a wide range of volunteering opportunities from rescue to fundraising + more. Further training is available, such as species-specific courses that allow volunteers to rehabilitate and release wildlife.

Time required

WIRES uses a Rescue Communication System that communicates with volunteers via an easy-to-use app. Volunteer involvement is flexible, with individuals having complete control over their availability. WIRES volunteers are not obliged to attend any rescues that they are not comfortable or available to attend and are also not obliged to attend local fundraising or recruitment events. All individuals can choose how and when they wish to spend their time volunteering for WIRES.
