Volunteer Visitor, lifestyle enrichment for people living with dementia

MS Plus
Logo for MS Plus

MS Plus seeks skilled volunteer visitors to provide social companionship to residents in aged care and living with neurological conditions, such as dementia.

We are specifically interested in students or professionals leading the way in respectful communication through meaningful interactions, and who are compassionately aware of how living with a neurological condition, such as dementia, can greatly increase an individual’s risk of social isolation and loneliness.

Through the Community Visitors Scheme you have an opportunity to work directly with a socially vulnerable individual and develop your soft skills. You also have an opportunity to indirectly consider your growing skills and knowledge, for the benefit of your recipient.

Most importantly, you will make a positive and significant contribution to the quality of someone’s life.

Relevant professions might include and are not limited to, • Speech Pathology • Psychology • Counselling • Social Work • Art/Music Therapy • Pastoral Care • Care Support • General Medicine • Neurological Research

If you have lived or professional experience, or are in the process of building your experience portfolio, we would love to hear from you.

Your commitment is flexible, being a minimum of two social visits per month at a time and duration mutually agreeable between you and your recipient, for a minimum of 12 months. However, we do encourage weekly visits where possible.

For more information, please feel free to contact Kerri Marie, Coordinator Community Visitors Scheme ACT on (02) 6234 7029 (Tues, Wed or Thurs) or simply apply here for a call/email back.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
