Volunteer Driver - Food Collection

Description: Foodbank NSW & ACT is expanding our capacity to collect surplus produce directly from retailers and manufacturers in the Sydney Metropolitan area. We are seeking volunteers to drive commercial vans recently added to our fleet and collect donations on weekdays.

This role will help Foodbank NSW & ACT to increase the amount of fresh produce, proteins, and bakery goods that are some of the items our charity partners need the most. This is a public facing role, and volunteers will reflect Foodbank NSW & ACT’s values in their work with companies donating food.

Key responsibilities: • Safely operate Foodbank NSW & ACT vehicles (vans that can be driven on a normal automatic licence). • Manual handling, loading and unloading van, safe lifting up to 20kg. • Ensuring food items are safely collected and returned to Foodbank NSW & ACT’s Glendenning distribution centre. • Keeping records of food received and providing handwritten receipts to donors.

Skills, experience, and attributes required: • Ability to interact professionally with a range of people • Good written and spoken English skills • Ability to complete manual handling • Full NSW Drivers Licence, minimum class C (Automatic). • Knowledge of load restraint and chain of responsibility would be helpful.

Further details and how to apply: This is an ongoing volunteer position based out of our Glendenning distribution centre. Volunteer commitment for this role will be 1 to 2 days per week, hours are flexible but indicative start and finish times are 8am to 2pm. Volunteers in this position will work closely with our transport team and will receive guidance from the Transport Supervisor and Volunteer Management team.
