About PWdWA

PWdWA is the State’s leading member-based disability advocacy organisation, providing independent individual and systemic advocacy, as well as general information and self-advocacy resources. It is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Non-Profits Commission and a Deductible Gift Recipient.

The organisation has grown significantly over more than 40 years of operations, and today receives significant State and Federal Government funding.

In the 2022 financial year, it had a turnover of more than $2.6 million, and supported approximately 800 individuals with matters ranging from housing to NDIS Appeals. It also assisted 75 individuals with submissions to the Disability Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. It also undertook systemic advocacy activities across areas such as the NDIS, Equal Opportunity Act review, COVID-19 response, and Guardianship and Administration.

All PWdWA Board Directors are people with disabilities, in keeping with its member-based principles - prospective Advisory Board members can find biographies of current directors on the PWdWA website under 'about us' then 'our committee'.
