ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

As the welcoming face for one of the main activities for 3rd Space visitors, you will:

• Meet and greet volunteers and visitors to the gardening sessions
• Encourage visitors to participate in the activity
• Take a lead role in planning and delivery of gardening activities
• Clean and return materials and tools to storage at the end of each session
• Liaise with other volunteers, staff and visitors
• Work closely with the rest of the team to identify opportunities to reduce the risk that visitors may become agitated, in accordance with internal procedures.

This is a weekly or fortnightly commitment, on Thursdays from 12:30pm to 3pm.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE

Successful candidates will:

• Have a keen interest in gardening and working with people from diverse backgrounds
• Be reliable and punctual
• Be committed to working in accordance with 3rd Space values of respect, dignity, perseverance and integrity
• Have an understanding of and be willing to work within trauma-informed frameworks and person-centred approaches
• Demonstrate well developed inter-personal skills and the ability to treat each person as an individual
• Be willing to go the extra mile, show initiative and treat each person as an individual
• Perform calmly in stressful situations including critical incidents relating to alcohol and other drugs, mental health issues and medical issues
• Practice self-care and have the capacity to ask for support for themselves as needed
• Are able to work within the parameters of the volunteer role, policies and procedures and respect professional boundaries.
