Local Coordinators play a key role in a High School Students exchange experience. You check in with your student and host family monthly to ensure that they are having a positive experience and offer support where needed. You may be required to liaise with the student's school from time to time and be available by phone to offer additional support if needed. Students are in Australia to experience life with a new family, in a new community and attend school. Being part of an exchange student's journey is rewarding, sometimes challenging, and frequently fun! Local Coordinators often describe the role as being a bit like being an Aunt or Uncle! There are criteria to meet, and full training is given, plus you have access to a portal of information and full support from the YFU Team.
