Community Visitor Volunteer - Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Swansea and Hunter region

- Ongoing 12 month position
- 1-2 hours per week or fortnight
- Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm
The Program
Red Cross supports elderly members of the community to be more independent, to improve their wellbeing and social connection and to remain living in their local community. We do this by matching volunteers with an older person who lives in aged care or at home and experiences social isolation.
The opportunity
This role suits someone over the age of 18 who is a good listener and communicator and can commit to a minimum of 1 to 2 hours per week or fortnight for a social visit to an elderly person. Your time spent with the participant could include having a chat over coffee, reminiscing, listening to music, reading the newspaper, playing a game of cards or other interest they would like to engage in. You may also accompanying them to cafes, lookouts, galleries, libraries, the cinema and more. You will preferably have a current driver’s licence and comprehensive vehicle insurance.
The impact
As a Community Visitor Volunteer, you’ll brighten the life of an elderly person by offering them company and friendship. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
Red Cross strives to create a safe and inclusive culture with wellbeing at its centre. We embrace diversity and welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people with different lived experiences, abilities, gender, ethnicity, age, and sexual orientation. We are a child safe organisation with zero tolerance of any harm to children. Our vision is to be trusted as the leading humanitarian organisation making a genuine difference in the lives of people and communities.
Thank you for considering volunteering at Red Cross. We also have great career opportunities.
