The Ozanam Learning Centre (OLC) is a community centre based in Woolloomooloo where people can connect, learn, participate in activities and workshops, and access a wide range of supports. Our work aims to provide opportunities for inclusion and support for those who need it. The OLC aims to improve to increase the engagement and resilence of community members in order that enjoy a higher quality of life.

We provide creative programs such as art and music, health, well-being and recovery programs, personal development and living skills programs.

Our facility includes a large art and pottery room, a well equipped music studio, a small gymnasium, a commercial kitchen, a library, computer rooms as well as other spaces in which recreational activities are offered.

A number of people, who visit the Community Centre, from the local area and beyond, seek guidance and assistance on using a computer. This usually requires basic advice, such as how to access mygov or set up an email address or put together documents such as a CV. Some participants also need help with managing their mobile phones.

An IT support volunteer is required to be available as a resource for two to three hours every week in our computer room. Elements of the role include:

  • Advice on internet, social media and email use
  • Advice on basic software use (Microsoft Office)
  • Installing and managing apps. on mobile devices
  • Helping to maintain a positive, caring culture in the OLC

This role is helpful in enabling community members, disadvantaged by lack of education and experience with technology, to remain connected with mainstream activities and practices.

You will have sound knowledge of Microsoft Office. You will also have a sound knowledge of internet, email and social media. Most importantly, you will have good listening skills, empathy and patience, with a friendly, non-judgemental attitude.
