Entertainment volunteers facilitate play and entertainment activities in our supervised playroom, Kidzone. Entertainment volunteers also take toys and games to the bedsides to play with patients and their siblings in the wards. One of the wonderful things about this service is that we can offer kids the opportunity to choose what they want to do. Their days are usually regimented by hospital staff and procedures – we can give them the chance to make choices and just be kids again.
Entertainment volunteers also help to distract young patients from their injury or illness, provide some much-needed relief from the stresses of being in a hospital environment and bring smiles and laughter to children in hospital.
The key responsibilities for this role include:
- Interacting positively with patients and their families within our dedicated play room, outpatient wait areas, and inpatient units, taking into consideration their cultural and social conditions.
- Facilitating resource loans to patients in wards. Assisting resource management by collecting items from wards, reporting resource requirements, and refilling.
