The Wildcare Helpline is owned by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and managed by WA Wildlife. Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and want to make a difference in your local community but not necessarily work directly with wildlife? Join our team as a call centre volunteer and help us to provide advice and support to members of the public who have found sick or injured wildlife. As a call centre volunteer, you'll play a vital role in our wildlife rehabilitation efforts, providing advice and guidance to callers who have found wildlife in distress. In this role, you'll be part of a team of experienced wildlife professionals who are dedicated to supporting Western Australia's unique biodiversity. You'll receive comprehensive training on how to handle calls and provide advice, as well as ongoing support and guidance from the Wildcare Helpline Coordinator. Requirements for this position include a passion for wildlife conservation and a desire to make a difference in your local community. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. You'll need to be comfortable using a computer and phone system, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Minimum commitment is a 3-5 hour shift per week. Once you complete your training, you have the option to volunteer from home or work at the Wildcare Helpline office at WA Wildlife. If you're looking for an exciting and meaningful volunteer opportunity, we encourage you to apply for this position today. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of wildlife in need. Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Answering incoming calls
  • Documenting/logging phone calls
  • Providing advice on animal capture and transport for certain low risk species
  • Collaborating with wildlife rehabilitation organisations
  • Referring complex cases to Wildlife Officers or Animal Control Agents from the DBCA
  • Data entry
  • Promoting wildlife conservation
