#Would you like to become a Voluntary Guide?

The Australian War Memorial is not only an exciting and innovative place to volunteer, but it is also a multi-award-winning world-class museum. Since opening in 1941, the Australian War Memorial has been committed to telling the story of Australia’s wartime experience, and for more than 45 years voluntary guides have assisted us in standing by this commitment.

If you would like to tell the stories of the men and women who have served the nation in war and on operations, we will shortly commence our annual recruitment for the 2023 intake of voluntary guides.

The Memorial only undertakes one recruitment process for voluntary guides annually. Formal training commences in late February of each year and concludes mid-July, with a further self-directed component running for an additional three to four months afterwards.

If being a voluntary guide at the Australian War Memorial sounds like a challenge you are ready to embrace, further information can be found at on our website, under the "Get Involved" tab.

You may also wish to join us for our 2023 Voluntary Guide Information Session:

Saturday, 17 December 2022 9 am - 11 am Aircraft Hall (enter via Main Entrance) Australian War Memorial

The session will provide a series of short presentations from volunteers who will deliver the training as well as those who have recently completed it and become accredited guides. Following the session there will be opportunity for a one-on-one Q&A with the guides before joining a tour of the galleries.
