Brief Program Overview

Pathway to Empowerment is a program comprising four courses for women who are recovering from family and domestic violence.

The group is about women reconnecting with themselves, working out what sort of life they want, and the practical steps they can take to achieve this.

Purpose of Role/Overview:

The Group Support Volunteer will:

• Provide support to Program Facilitator • Provide support to women affected by domestic and family violence in the group context and individually when required with the guidance of Program Facilitator • Assist women with developing Pathway plans with the guidance of Program Facilitator • Refer women to internal or external supports when required • Assist with the preparation and pack up of the group • Assist with food preparation • Any other administrative duties requested

Key attributes:

• Respectful and effective communication skills • Ability to make women and children feel welcome and valued • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality • Active listening and ability to maintain personal privacy and safety • Commitment to social justice and the needs of women and their children

Preferred qualifications:

• Completed or working towards completion of Cert IV Training and Education, Community Services, Women’s Studies, Bachelor of Social Science, Social Work or equivalent.

We will provide you with:

• Training and orientation to the role • Opportunities for training and other professional development opportunities as identified (ie: DFV training) • Lunch • Reimbursement for transport if required
