Volunteer Jockey - Group Transport

Connect Health & Community

Connect Health is a not-for-profit community health service, helping residents in the southeast, Bayside and Glen Eira areas.

Our Group Transport program provides safe, door to door transport to enable clients to remain independent, living in their homes longer and fosters social connectedness.

In this role you will

  • Provide support to clients and volunteer drivers as required.

  • Assist the volunteer driver with navigation, if required.

  • Provide assistance to the volunteer driver when they are reversing the vehicle to identify obstacles in the way and indicate when it is safe to continue. You will provide instructions both out of the bus and to the side of the moving vehicle.

  • Assist the volunteer driver to load walkers and wheelchairs into the bus.

  • Escort clients to and from their home and assist them to and from the vehicle, if necessary.

  • Answer mobile telephone and relay information to the volunteer driver.

  • Assist clients to embark and disembark the bus and or on and off the hoist and into their residence.

This role is a great chance to become engaged with the local community, providing companionship and social support. It would be well suited to someone who enjoys having a light-hearted chat with clients.

We have vacancies Monday – Friday 8:30 – 4:30. Volunteers can choose the number of hours they share.
