GOAL Bush regeneration is essential to achieving Tarcutta’s conservation goals including:

  • To restore habitat for breeding and food resources.

  • To enhance landscape connectivity.

  • To expand threatened ecological communities.

  • To stabilise and enrich soils.

  • To increase diversity and abundance of native plants.

TIME COMMITMENT First working bee Arrive: Either afternoon of Tuesday 8th or morning of Wednesday 9th November Induction: Wednesday 9th November in the morning Depart: Friday 11th November Time: Approx. 8.30am to 4pm

Second working bee Arrive: Tuesday 15th around 10.30am Induction: Tuesday 15th around midday Depart: Friday 18th November Time: Approx. 8.30am to 4pm

TASKS The tasks will be a mixture of tree-planting, hand-weeding, and tree guard maintenance.

PREREQUISITES

  • Reliability and commitment to work safely with limited supervision .

  • Work cooperatively as a member of a small volunteer team to complete daily tasks

  • 4WD/AWD transport is preferred to access Tarcutta Hills Reserve – however we can transport you from the front gate and leave your 2WD parked.

  • Good level of physical fitness (lots of walking across hilly terrain and work can be demanding with lots of bending, squatting and using hand tools).

  • Commitment to adhere to Bush Heritage’s Covid-related safety policies

ACCOMMODATION / FACILITIES

  • Volunteers will need to bring their own camping equipment. Bedrooms in hut are not currently in use.

  • There is a BBQ and a kitchen with basic equipment including oven, cutlery and cooking utensils.

  • There is a gas fired hot water shower and a toilet.

We focus work in our priority landscapes – areas selected on the basis of national biodiversity priorities, location of existing reserves and opportunities for strategic partnerships.

Today we work across 11.3 million hectares of land. Our reserves and partnerships protect threatened ecosystems and 7,716 species of plants and animals.

Bush Heritage has over 1300 registered volunteers and the activities on reserve that volunteers are involved in is extremely diverse. They help with projects like infrastructure maintenance, fauna and flora monitoring, weeding and soil conservation, feral animal control, revegetation, and fence removal. We also have a range of projects that volunteers can work on from home.
