1. Who is WoCA

Women of Colour Australia (WoCA) is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity established in August 2020. We are run by women of colour for women of colour. We exist to champion Australia’s women of colour through programs of education, community support initiatives, and advocacy work.

Our Vision: A world where girls and women of colour are afforded equitable opportunities to reach their full potential.

Our Purpose: To advocate, support and strengthen the lives and experiences of Women of Colour in all places and spaces in Australia.

2. The Volunteer Management Committee Volunteer Support Officers sit within the Volunteer Management Committee. This committee works to ensure that WoCA has a robust, energised and amazing community of volunteers. The committee shall be responsible for the recruitment and coordination of all volunteer efforts for WoCA from inducting volunteers, managing the volunteer database, supporting ongoing training efforts, recruitment efforts, onboarding and organising appreciation events, this committee plays a vital role to WoCA.

3. Attributes The Volunteer Support Officer should:

  • Be a person who is enthusiastic about being a volunteer and can encourage others to be involved
  • Be a person who can develop good relationships
  • Be a regular email user for ease of communication
  • Have a good working knowledge of the various WoCA committees, duties and responsibilities, goals and projects

4. Duties

  • Induct new volunteers
  • Support new volunteer induction by organising relevant people to support newcomers
  • Conduct induction days
  • Act as the “go to” person for the committee
  • Report to the Volunteer Management Committee on new volunteers and the committee
  • Actively recognise volunteers from the committee generally and individually through committee communications
  • Attend Volunteer Management Committee meetings
