Community Visitor - Mandarin - Penshurst/Remote #183863

Community Visitors Scheme, Sydney Local Area Health District

Our volunteer visitors are required to visit their designed residents in the aged care homes on a regular basis, approximately once a fortnight, with a minimum of 20 visits per year.

To become a volunteer visitor, all applicants are required to complete an on-line Infection Control Training prepared by the Australian Government and a CVS induction Training. To minimize the risk of COVID-19/flu infection, all visitors should be able to produce a the current vaccination certificate, to perform a COVID-19 safe self- screen check on the date of their visit, and to be screened by the aged care homes on their arrival according to the visiting rules.

Volunteer visitors are encouraged to keep connecting with their ‘friends’ in the aged care homes through different means of communication in case of any extraordinary circumstances. In the situation of a lockdown of the aged care homes, volunteers visitors shall continue visiting their ‘friends’ virtually like through digital talks (ZOOM), phone calls, card/letter sending, window visits, gifts dropping off, etc. It is an interim measure to maintain connections with the residents. The preferred visiting mode is still ‘face-to-face’.

The availability of the vacancies as shown on the attached list is subject to changes of health conditions of the residents in the aged care homes. Also, there is no reimbursement of expenses to volunteers.

Benefits:

  • make new friendships
  • help brighten the day of an older member of your community
