Empower Autism
Logo for Empower Autism

At Empower Autism our vision is for autistic people to live with confidence and self-belief. Our mission is to empower them to reach their potential through providing programs and services based on access, self-actualisation, and self-advocacy. We are proud to run several support groups throughout South-East Queensland to support and empower autistic people and their carers and loved ones. We are currently seeking Facilitators for our new groups in North Lakes. We also have existing groups at Virginia, The Gap and Capalaba if you'd prefer these locations.

We have a high regard for the benefits of peer support and our Peer Support Groups are focused on creating opportunities for participants to share interests and experiences and connect with peers in a safe place. Our facilitators are integral to achieving this. This is a fun and engaging role that provides a variety of opportunities to share your strengths and empower others to share theirs.

The duties of this role include:

  • Welcome Participants
  • Ensure the venue is set up for participants to engage in week’s activity (resources provided)
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Actively and safely engage participants in the activity
  • Ensure groups are run to Empower Autism’s code of conduct
  • Facilitate peer to peer social engagement when opportunities arise
  • Ensure new participants are welcomed into the group
  • Create positive interactions with the participants of the group
  • Ensure all attendees leave safely with designated transport person
  • Assist in pack up of venue

Ideally you will have lived experience with autism (or be studying a related degree), have experience in group facilitation (or a desire to develop group facilitation skills), a strong desire to make a contribution to the autistic community and a desire to broaden your knowledge of autism. You must be available one evening a week from 5.30pm-8.00pm. Training and support will be provided. You’ll need to have the appropriate clearances (Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening and National Police Check) and we will assist you through this process.

Not available evenings? We also have volunteer positions in administration, marketing and other areas available during office hours.

To discuss the role in more detail, contact our office on (07) 3865 2911.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
