RSPCA NSW – AWARE Education Volunteer Volunteering location This volunteer role requires you to promote RSPCA’s online educational platform – AWARE (Animal Wellbeing: Awareness, Responsibility and Education) in your local community. We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to promote AWARE to teachers and the wider school community.

Time commitment The time commitment for this volunteering role varies and is flexible. Ideally you will be available to promote AWARE and meet with teachers between the hours of 9am – 3pm Monday to Friday, however this is dependent on your availability and the school’s schedule.

About the role RSPCA NSW Education Team is responsible for delivering Education programs in schools, in the community as well as hosting Education programs onsite at our various shelters.

To meet the increasing demand for our service and to help us deliver more animal welfare education, RSPCA has a nationally developed educational resource AWARE which provides teachers access to a suite of lesson plans and classroom activities to bring animal welfare into the classroom.

As an AWARE Education Volunteer, you will be involved in promoting both the AWARE teacher’s portal and the AWARE Kid’s portal. Your role will help us:

  • Showcase AWARE to teachers so they can deliver RSPCA animal welfare lessons in the classroom
  • Encourage students to visit the AWARE kids’ portal so that more young people are engaged with RSPCA and animal welfare
  • Promote RSPCA Education to schools and community groups in regional locations
  • You will be supported by the Education Manager and Education Officers to promote an important educational resource for schools.

What this volunteer role looks like:

  • Work alongside Education team to promote an educational and fun resource

  • Set up meeting times with schools to present AWARE to teachers - some administrational duties may be required

  • Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines

  • Understand and comply with RSPCA NSW policies and procedures, including the Child Safe Policy

What we need from you:

  • At least 18 years old

  • Current Working with Children Check

  • Experience with working with children, e.g classroom teacher, school administration

  • General understanding of the schooling system

  • Availability on weekdays during school term - 9am to 3pm

  • Confidence to present to groups of teachers

  • Friendly, approachable and welcoming attitude

  • Competent with navigating websites and online learning tools

  • Punctual, with good time management skills

  • Energetic and enjoy interacting with people

  • Ability to follow direction, work within a team and individually

  • Clear and accurate communication skills and professional attitude

About RSPCA NSW We’re a registered animal welfare charity that rescues, treats, cares for, and rehomes animals in need in New South Wales. We advocate for the protection and welfare of all animals, including dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs, birds and many, many more.

Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful donors and supporters, who fund 98% of our work, RSPCA NSW runs nine shelters, four veterinary hospitals and a Care Centre in various locations across the state.

RSPCA NSW has one of the largest animal law enforcement units in the state, with over 30 inspectors dedicated to investigating instances of animal cruelty.

Without our wonderful volunteers, RSPCA NSW could not do the work we do! Not only do our volunteers run 26 branches to raise money and run initiatives in their local communities, but volunteers assist with administration, animal care, event help, gardening, fostering and so much more.
