The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this opportunity on behalf of ASRC - Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The ASRC is seeking qualified social workers, caseworkers, psychologists, and community engagement specialists to triage and support clients to access our services and provide information and referrals at the Refugee Resource Hub - Dandenong.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Conduct intake and assessments
• Crisis Intervention
• Provide a welcoming atmosphere for new clients, ensuring clients feel respected, supported and part of our caring community
• Orientate new clients to Refugee Resource Hub services
• Obtain copies of required visa, legal and other documents
• Complete internal and external referrals
• Case-noting and records management
• Information provision
• Telephone support work
• Advocacy and other duties as requested

Skills and Attributes: Essential:

• Currently studying or completed Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Welfare Work, Youth Work, Community Development, Counselling or related fields
• Employment, volunteer or study placement experience with case management
• Experience responding appropriately to clients with high needs, challenging behaviours and/or those who present in crisis - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong administrative and organisational skills, including familiarity with Google Workplace and Microsoft office Suite
• Enjoy working in a supportive team environment

Desirable

• Experience in maintaining accurate and up-to-date casenotes and client records
• Experience in assessment, triage and crisis intervention in a Community/Welfare/Health setting
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from culturally diverse backgrounds
• An understanding of the needs and political context of people seeking asylum, particularly those who have been in immigration detention
