This role is suited to someone who has an interest and previous experience in fish tank maintenance who can provide their expertise and help improve the MDC’s aquariums as part of a team. OR Someone who is committed to learn about fish tanks and is willing to follow the direction from the aquarium supervisor to build skills in managing aquariums.

This role is flexible but requires at least 4 hours a fortnight of maintaining the fish tanks and the aquarium kitchen. Until the volunteer is proficiently trained in aquarium cleaning and maintenance, the tasks will be done during opening hours.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow direction from the Board and the aquarium supervisor to complete fish tank maintenance tasks
  • Clean tanks including glass, filters and skimmers.
  • Check parameters of the fish tanks including temperatures, salt level and water quality.
  • Water changes.
  • Preparing fish food.
  • Work with and without supervision

All volunteers at the Centre Coast Marine Discovery Centre are expected to learn about the local marine environment and become comfortable with dealing with customers. Occasionally you may be asked to help the tour guiding volunteers during busy times.
