The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Heide Museum of Modern Art.

The gardens at Heide Museum of Modern Art are as integral a part of the visitor experience as the art. This volunteer role will assist with Heide’s indigenous garden project along the Birrarung (Yarra River), Yaluk Langa (River’s Edge). Do you have an interest in indigenous land management and the ability to work outdoors, using garden tools? You'll need to be available on the last Saturday of the month from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Tasks and Responsibilities: Under direction, assist the Heide garden staff in the care, maintenance and presentation of Heide’s indigenous garden project along the Yarra River. These tasks will include:

• Weeding
• Planting
• Dead heading
• Raking
• Pruning
• Soil improvement
• Plant cultivation

Skills and Experience:

• Ability to work outdoors and use garden tools
• Demonstrated ability to understand and follow instructions and work under supervision
• An appreciation for indigenous culture and environment, and an ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
• The capacity to provide an ongoing commitment of one 4 hours shift on the last Saturday of the month
• Certificate III in Horticulture or higher qualification is desirable
