  • Ongoing commitment
  • Volunteers are rostered according to their availability and service demand
  • Join the world's largest humanitarian network

The program

Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections, people with disability and people recovering from mental illness to help improve their wellbeing.

The service places particular emphasis on providing a service dedicated to increasing social connectedness within the community thus ensuring participants are able to access personal, social or community functions.

The Transport Driver Volunteers provide a door to door transport service for people who are elderly or have a disability and have no means of transport to non-urgent medical appointments or social outings.

The opportunity

If you have a current SA driver’s license or equivalent, this role will give you the opportunity to assist older people without any transport accessibility. Through your volunteer service, you will help them to attend medical appointments and social outings.

The volunteer will be required to drive Red Cross passenger vehicles, picking up and transporting people to appointments. The ideal candidate will have the ability to lift up to 15 kgs.

The impact

As a Transport Driver volunteer, you’ll help improve the quality of life and wellbeing of people who are elderly or have a disability by connecting them with services in their local community. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
