The Whittlesea Food Collective (WFC), launched by WCC in late 2019, is integrated with other initiatives including the Wollert Community Farm. Through these initiatives WCC aims to create a more equitable and sustainable food system in the City of Whittlesea, by supporting households experiencing financial hardship, strengthening community connections, improving health and wellbeing and increasing training and employment opportunities through community based food production and distribution.

Having recently secured Vic Health’s ‘Future Healthy Food Hubs’ funding we are expanding existing Food Collective activities to establish a Food Hub that will include a regular weekly market that aims to improve access to healthy, affordable and locally sourced (where possible) fruit and vegetables for the local community.

The Whittlesea Food Collective Market Assistants will report to the Whittlesea Food Collective Enterprise Lead to assist with market operations, including sourcing produce, setting up, running and packing down the market, providing customer service and supporting community programs and activities surrounding the market.

Key Responsibilities

• Market set up and pack down • Pricing and signage • Restocking and keeping the market area presentable • Customer service: welcoming and greeting customers, responding to questions, conveying information, conducting surveys • Tidying, cleaning, and flattening boxes • Preparing food boxes • Chopping fruit and vegetables for tasting • Support other activities such as gardening and cooking workshops
