Social Inclusion Assistant - Northmead - # 175255

Community Wheels Inc

Community Wheels Inc., located in Northmead, is a non-profit community transport organisation operating in Parramatta and Cumberland LGAs. As part of our social inclusion program, we organise monthly outings to various interesting events.

Volunteer positions are available for social inclusion assistant to help the driver with client outings. This position is suited to someone seeking to help older people engage and connect with their community.

Flexible hours between 7.00am to 3.30pm, Mon to Fri, some outings on Saturdays.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the driver with safe and comfortable transport of clients to and from pre-arranged outing venues.
  • Assist clients climb in and out of the vehicle as required.
  • Ensure all clients have seatbelts secured during transport.
  • Handle money from clients, if and as directed by the driver.
  • Engage with clients and assist them with their needs in the bus and at venues.
  • Promote positive image of the organisation.
  • Comply with the organisation’s WHS standards and other policies and procedures.

Essential Attributes:

  • Positive “can do” attitude.
  • Be passionate about the organisation’s mission and vision and what it does.
  • Empathetic, trustworthy, patient and reliable.
  • Willing to learn and work as part of a team.
  • Communicate in a clear, fluent and pleasant manner.

Desirable Skills:

  • Willing to work weekends if required.
  • Knowledge of a language other than English will be helpful.
  • Current first aid certificate and WWCC is an advantage.
  • Willing to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination

All volunteering is carried out in accordance with COVID safe practices:

  • We provide all team members with PPE for use on vehicles - gloves, face masks and hand sanitisers
  • Vehicles are wiped down daily by drivers
  • Clients asked to check-in using QR codes available in all vehicles
  • RAT kits in office to test team members if anyone starts to feel unwell or show symptoms
