Volunteer - Governance Committee Youth Member

Amnesty International Australia

We’re looking for a dedicated and passionate volunteer who is interested in being involved in a high-level governance and operational role within a major international not-for-profit.

Our Governance Committee is a Board Committee established to maintain and review our Policy Framework, advise on the application of our Constitution and advise on any governance related matters referred by the Board. We’re looking for a passionate young person (aged between 18 - 25) to join the committee and support the ongoing integrity and transparency of Amnesty International Australia’s operations. As a Committee Member for the Governance Committee, some of your main responsibilities will include

  • Working collaboratively with fellow Committee Members to maintain our current policy framework and periodically review relevant internal policies

  • Working collaboratively with fellow Committee Members to advise on the application of the Amnesty International Australia (AIA) Constitution in our operational work

  • Working collaboratively with fellow Committee Members to advise on governance related matters referred by the Board including issues related to Voting and Democracy for Members

  • Attending video conference meetings up to six times per year

  • Preparing for meetings by reading relevant documents and policies and keeping abreast of developments in governance in the not-for-profit sector

  • Undertaking necessary tasks between meetings

  • Acting as a positive advocate for Amnesty International and upholding our Values and Behaviours Charter

  • Helping drive our continued embodiment of our values of Empowerment, Integrity, Persistency and Courage in all of our operational work

Through this role we are looking to intentionally create a space for young people to be more greatly involved in our organisational governance. This role is a great opportunity for a young person interested in understanding governance and policy processes and frameworks within a major international not-for-profit organisation. We strongly encourage those with qualifications and experience in governance and policy to apply.
