Deputy Director of Advocacy

About the Role: Working alongside the Director of Advocacy, this role plays a critical part in supporting the Advocacy team and it’s strategic outcomes. This role would suit a strategic thinker who is passionate about providing a supportive voice for migrant women and international students in a dynamic not-for-profit environment.

In this role you will lead one of two strategic Advocacy pillars that supports the views and voices of migrants through various channels, in addition to stepping into the role of Director of Advocacy to cover periods of leave.

Role Commitment: 5-8 hours per week including some after hours meetings

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of one Advocacy pillar strategic and tactical plan. As part of this plan:
  1. Conduct research to identify the key issues affecting migrants in your Advocacy pillar
  2. Engage and collaborate with the Community Engagement, Services and Marketing teams to identify opportunities to raise awareness and engage with IC members
  3. Work alongside the Director of Advocacy to identify suitable grants, speaking engagements, media and social media opportunities to bring awareness to your advocacy pillar’s key issues
  4. Set up collaborations with other organisations to support advocacy for migrants
  • Attend International Collective monthly management team meetings and all staff monthly town halls

  • Step into the role of Director of Advocacy to cover periods of leave and support the team

To be successful in the role:

  • Lived or work experience with migrant issues

  • Ability to identify an issue and develop a strategic plan to address it

  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research to address strategic outcomes

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on initiatives, campaigns and outcomes

  • Approximately 3-5 years experience in a communications, advocacy, or research role
