SciWorld is a not-for-profit community organisation looking for a qualified Accountant to join the board. SciWorld is dedicated to inspiring and engaging young South Australians with science, technology, engineering and mathematics with a diverse range of activities including scientific history and displays, STEM incursion, science outreach programs and events for school students and the general public.

SciWorld has a particular focus on bringing interactive science experiences to disadvantaged young people and communities, whether this disadvantage is of a geographical or socio-economic nature. We essentially concentrate on the years R - 7 for most of our school-based programs but have identified a growing need for programs relevant to high school students.

In addition to general board member responsibilities, the treasurer role will be one of assisting other board members to meet their responsibilities relating to financial accountability and financial governance. This will include ensuring the integrity of the accounting system enabling the production of financial data and reports for the purposes of management, statutory reporting requirements and lodgement of documents and payment of amounts owing relating to superannuation, GST and PAYG.

SciWorld uses Xero for its accounting system linked to Dext for expense documentation and control. The treasurer currently works closely with the general manager in the operation of the systems and in liaising with our pro bono auditors to ensure they can obtain the information they need to complete the audit on a time efficient basis. The auditors use their software to prepare a complying draft annual financial report to assist the board with its responsibility for the preparation of the report.

The board has established various committees including a finance committee. The treasurer will be a member of the finance committee which meets prior to board meetings and reports to the board on financial and governance matters.

Skills and abilities required: • Experienced and qualified Accountant (CPA/CA) • Experience with Xero & Receipt Bank/DEXT preferred • Previous Board experience not essential
