About Pets of the Homeless

Pets Of The Homeless (POTH) helps keep vulnerable people and their pets together by alleviating the burden of providing essential pet care during times of hardship. We believe that the companionship and the therapeutic value of pets is immeasurable and nothing should come between a loving owner and their pet. Not homelessness. Not financial hardship. Not domestic violence. Pets are family – and nothing should stand in the way of that.

Volunteers are integral to our mission, playing an active and vital role in helping to support our work to improve the lives of people and pets in need.

About the Role

Pets Of The Homeless (POTH) is expanding its Emergency Boarding/Foster Care and Vet Programs and is seeking volunteer pet transport drivers to help transport pets to and from foster care, commercial boarding facilities and vet appointments. This is a flexible, on-call role using your own vehicle. We are looking for people able to drive Monday - Friday, during office hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transporting pets (and sometimes pet owners) to and from vet appointments, foster homes and boarding facilities.
  • Taking a photo/video of each pet to assist with our supporter engagement.
  • Collecting donations of pet food from suppliers.
  • This is a minimum 6 month, flexible, on-call position

Required Skills, Experience & Attributes

Essential:

  • A current full driving licence.
  • Must be willing to use your own vehicle to transport pets.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow oral and written instructions carefully.
  • Strong communication skills and a love for engaging with people and animals.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team, while working independently.
  • A good level of general fitness; some lifting of animals or donations may be required.
  • As this role is on-call, both flexibility and availability are required.
  • An awareness of the services of Pets of the Homeless.
  • A mobile phone with a camera for photo taking purposes.
  • Pass a National Police Certificate.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with companion animals or a qualification in animal care
