Through our services we’re addressing some of our community’s most pressing social issues, confronting injustice and providing end-to-end support for those facing adversity. With a strong connection to the Uniting Church, we use our reach and compelling vision to help people live life in all its fullness. At UnitingCare, we strive to help the people we serve experience life in all its fullness.

This volunteer opportunity will help to influence at-risk youth from reoffending by creating new potential pathways through positive experiences

The Bike Program is a 6-month pilot program working with Juvenile Justice as a social enterprise to refurbish old bikes for sale to the public. This volunteer role will support the bike mechanic leading the program and bike repairs.

Youth at risk of reoffending will participate in one of three 2-month programs designed to create positive experiences and new relationships that are outside of their normal day to day experience.

This diversional program aims to open new pathways for youth as they gain experience in a workplace setting; practical and relational skills useful for future employment prospects.

The bike workshop is a repurposed shipping container located on the property at the West End Uniting Church - The Restoration Inn.

Tasks involved include:

  • Support the bike mechanic as required
  • Assist with workshop preparations and upkeep
  • Engage with participants

This is a great opportunity to:

  • Experience the joy of making a meaningful difference
  • Give back to the community

Skills Required:

  • Comfortable engaging with young people
  • Non-judgmental and positive role model
  • Experience in bike mechanics is advantageous but not essential

UnitingCare values diversity in our organisation and we have some principles in place that will help to promote both inclusion and access. If you have any other accessibility requirements, please discuss these at the time of the interview.
