Pet Therapy Volunteer - Toowoomba

St Vincent's Care
Logo for St Vincent's Care

Do you have a well trained, gentle animal that loves to socialise with people? Because our elderly residents love visits from pets. We most commonly have dogs visit, but if you've got a turtle, chicken or something else unusual, we'd love to hear from you too!

Pet Therapy volunteers visit once a week and engage with any residents who would like to interact with your animal. You might just find that you become one of our very popular volunteers!

To work with the frail and elderly, it's important that your animal is calm and responds well to your instruction. Your animal's temperament will be assessed at the interview to ensure it is a good fit for an aged care environment. Dogs will also need to have had their C5 vaccination and be up to date with worming.

During the COVID-19 pandemic volunteers are more important than ever, especially as our residents navigate the difficulties of isolation. Your presence and positivity will be essential. Because the pandemic can bring sudden changes, SCVS will continue to follow the guidance proposed by governing health bodies around the safe inclusion of volunteers at our local facilities. Please be conscious that there may be delays to your recruitment or availability at a facility as a result.
