Activate Mental Health

==== About Activate Mental Health ====

Activate Mental Health is a dynamic and forward thinking organisation that has helped the Perth community for over 5 years. We run an array of fun social events that are hosted by dedicated and passionate volunteers who help to assist our members to improve their mental health and wellbeing. The group is based on the social media platform Meetup and runs a range of events across the Perth metropolitan area.

==== Our mission and values ====

Our mission: A positive, vibrant and well connected social community.

Our values:

Acceptance: we welcome people from all walks of life.

Community: we provide a welcoming and inclusive platform for our members to feel connected and valued.

Fun: we run engaging and enjoyable events.

==== The Creativity Workshop host role ====

Our group founder has run this particular meetup format after doing a course on positive psychology, where there was a focus on the importance of creativity for positive well-being.

The idea of this workshop is to encourage people to try new creativity exercises such as:

  • Doing adult colouring in sheets
  • Writing exercises such as haiku’s and writing stories based on prompts
  • Playing with play-doh
  • Using electronic devices such as iPads to make things like Pinterest boards and do graphic design and other creative activities
  • Origami
  • Knitting and crochet.

We use a well known cafe in Belmont, which has a private meeting room that you can use to run this workshop for free hire.

After getting people settled and doing a simple icebreaker, people are free to do whatever activity they choose. Some people might bring their own project to work on, while others may use the resources provided.

==== Resources required ====

We have amassed a few resources that can be used for this meetup format and we are happy to hand these over for future workshops. If needed, we can provide a small budget to provide more resources or ask attendees to pay a small donation to contribute to the purchase of new resources for future workshops. We do not expect people who take on this role to finance their own resources.

It may be handy however to play some chill out music using a laptop which you can connect to the TV available or use a Bluetooth speaker.

==== Time commitment ====

We are hoping this volunteer can run this event once every 1-2 months depending on the availability of the volunteer and the ability to secure the venue to run this workshop.

We are planning to run this workshop again on October 17th, where we’d be able to invite you to see how this meetup format works and see if you are willing to do this going forward. We may have the ability to co-host this workshop with 2 new volunteers.

People who express an interest in this role will need to be able to participate in a zoom interview ideally on Sunday October 3 between 9-10am or 10am-11am, but we may be able to be flexible on this dependent on availability.

You are also welcome to run alternative meetups that we offer such as walks and board games nights if you have an interest in doing this.
