Japanese Film Festival Canberra Pre-Festival Volunteer

The Japan Foundation, Sydney

The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) returns to Canberra on 28 Oct - 2 Nov and are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to promote the JFF's program among local communities by distributing program booklets at local businesses and organisations, and introducing the program to Palace Electric cinema patrons.

If you're passionate about Japanese culture, want to meet like-minded people, want to work behind-the-scenes of a major event, then why not sign up as a volunteer?

Our pre-festival volunteering aims are to promote the Japanese Film Festival's program among local communities by distributing program booklets at local businesses and organisations, and introducing the program to Palace Electric cinema patrons.

(1) ON-THE-GROUND PROMO This is a very important aspect of promoting the film festival. Without volunteers actively speaking with members of the local community and raising festival awareness, many people will not hear about the festival until after the event.

During this shift you will:

  • Travel to designated locations to represent JFF and introduce yourself to business owners and managers, university groups, local community organisations and groups
  • Encourage decision-makers to support JFF by displaying program booklets and posters in their premises
  • Answer general enquiries about the film program, ticketing and the festival
  • Promote the JFF among your friends and family
  • Keep a record of distribution duties

These shifts are conducted either during the day or afternoon.

(2) PROMOTIONAL EVENT Due to the changing Covid-19 affected environment, the promotional event has not been finalised yet, however the tentative date is between 11-20 October. More information will be released shortly.

(3) IN-CINEMA PROMO This shift aims at giving JFF a presence at our cinema venue because film lovers are keen to know about rare opportunities to see Japanese films!

During this shift you will:

  • Engage passersby in conversation on JFF and distributing program booklets
  • Answer general enquiries about the film program, ticketing and the festival
  • Tidy and refill program booklets on the desk

These shifts are conducted at the cinema venue from 18 October (shift times will include early weeknights and afternoons in the weekend).

REWARDS

  • PRE-FESTIVAL ONLY: 1x JFF t-shirt; 2x complimentary JFF tickets; and 2x discount tickets ($16)

  • BOTH: 1x JFF t-shirt; 4x complimentary JFF tickets; 4x discount tickets ($16); and 1x JFF tote bag.

Please Note: Volunteers working 3+ shifts per week can opt to swap their 4x single use vouchers for an extra t-shirt (if available) as they may not get the chance to wash their shirts.
