WHO ARE WE?

Little Dreamers is working to improve the quality of life for Young Carers across the country. A Young Carer is someone under the age of 25 that is in a family affected by disability, illness, mental health or addiction.

Our vision? To ensure that every single Young Carer around the world is supported by someone or something by 2030.

We are Australia’s leading Young Carer organisation, supporting young people between the ages of 4 – 25 years. Over the past ten years, we’ve granted over 200 Dream Experiences, run a Big Dreamers Personal Development Program, facilitated school holiday programs, and significantly improved the quality of life for thousands of Young Carers and their families.

ABOUT BIG DREAMERS PROGRAM

Built from personal experience and qualitative research, the Big Dreamers Program focuses on supporting Young Carers between the ages of 14 -18. Over a six-month period, 15 Young Carers participate in a welcome retreat, monthly workshops and receive personal and professional mentoring. They also have the incredible opportunity to meet other Young Carers from around Queensland. The aim is to empower, develop resilience and provide the opportunity to build a new skill set.

Our fun, empowering and proactive workshops aim to reduce the risk factors that our Young Carers face and to overall increase their life opportunities. Big Dreamers allows its participants to explore who they are outside of their caring role and find their hidden talents.

YOUR ROLE

Team Leaders will be in charge of 3-4 Young Carers each. Their role will be to:

  • Check in weekly with allocated participants
  • Be a support person in between the workshops and retreats
  • Ensure the participants know when events are on and confirm attendance
  • Communicate with Little Dreamers staff
  • Facilitate & participate in workshops & attend both retreats
  • 6-month commitment
  • Monthly workshops

MONTHLY WORKSHOPS

The workshops will be run once a month by our Big Dreamers Coordinator. We will have some exciting external guest facilitators joining us for these workshops. Workshops will cover topics such as healthy eating and life habits, social media, mental health & body image, storytelling, study skills, career aspirations, leadership and more. Our monthly workshops help to guide and ignite the passions, career goals and personal development values of our Big Dreamers, leaving them feeling motivated, uplifted and inspired to continue living their best lives.

RETREATS

The retreats are a chance for the kids to get to know each other and have a well-earned break from their caring roles. We want the kids to feel like they can just be kids, without their usual responsibilities.

Our retreats in the past have included tree surfing, mindfulness, team building activities, nature walks, workshops on their values & goals and much more. The retreat ensures that each young person feels better supported in their caring role and provides the opportunity for the formation of strong friendships.
