Support Group Facilitators

About the Role
Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria (ADAVIC) runs weekly peer-based support groups for anxiety and depression.
The groups provide an opportunity for individuals from the community to discuss their experiences with others in a safe, confidential, and encouraging environment.
We are seeking volunteers to assist in leading these groups.
You do not need to be an expert in mental health issues nor a fully qualified professional as our groups are a resource for community-based support rather than being clinical or therapy groups.
This role requires a 12 month commitment from volunteers.
Facilitators:
- Provide leadership, structure, and boundaries to meetings
- Open and close meetings
- Foster a safe and comfortable environment
- Ensure relevance, provide balance to discussions, manage differences of opinion
Positions Available
- Coburg Group (Monday evenings - 7.00pm – 9.45pm): 4 positions available
- Online Groups (Mon, Tues, Wed evenings – 6.45pm – 8.45pm): 5 positions available
Desired Skills
- A graduate degree in a related field (eg, psychology, counselling, social work)
- An awareness of anxiety & depression issues
- Excellent communication skills
- Respectful and professional attitude
- Empathic with a genuine desire to help people
