Outreach Volunteer

Housing First Support Services (HFSS) support people who are sleeping rough in Geraldton. We are seeking dynamic volunteers to work alongside our support workers to provide outreach around the Geraldton CBD area.

As a HFSS volunteer your role will be to assist with:: Meal preparation and clean up Serving breakfast to people sleeping rough who meet at the foreshore Provide a non judgmental and welcoming environment for people Work in collaboration with other service providers during outreach

What we offer: A full induction, support and supervision throughout your volunteering period In house training related to this role Information about the Housing First approach and our role in working with people who are sleeping rough Flexibility with whatever hours you are able to volunteer

We start outreach at 7am Monday and Friday mornings at the Geraldton foreshore. We also have a fortnightly Wednesday lunch session that starts at 10am - 1pm. You can volunteer for an hour or more, we are very flexible and appreciative of time that people can volunteer. Most of our volunteers start at 7am and go to their paid positions just after 8am, please get in touch if you can spare an hour. A warm and approachable manner is a must.

Training

Full induction, inhouse training, support and supervision though out volunteering period.

Time required

Outreach services will be operating 3 times per week ( Monday, Wednesday & Friday ) between 7am and 10am. There maybe changes to sometimes which will be discussed upon enquiry.

Reimbursement

Centacare will cover the costs of the National Police Check required prior to your acceptance

Have you worked with people experiencing homelessness or have lived experience of mental health issues, AOD, or homelessness? We would love to hear from you! DESIRABLE SKILLS: • Empathetic, kind, and calm manner • Open to working with people from diverse backgrounds • Ability to volunteer without direct supervision • Ability to adapt easily to change • Great communication skills In addition to some experience we welcome volunteers who have knowledge of the health, mental health, AOD, legal, housing, and mainstream services in Geraldton. We also value Volunteers who have the ability to work with people from various backgrounds and to respect different cultures and diversities in a professional manner upholding client's dignity and confidentiality at all times. Minimum age for volunteer applications is 18yrs old. It is desired that volunteers hold a current WA drivers license. Must have or be able to hold a WWC and WA Police Check.
