Committee Member - Vice-President

Banyule Support & Information Centre

We are a growing not-for-profit community group that provides emergency relief and support advocacy and information to the community. In 2020, amidst the COVID pandemic, we set up and established a Food Hub that services the southern Banyule area, operating out of a fit-for-purpose location at the West Heidelberg Community Hub. With this added service coupled with an increased need for support due to the impact of the pandemic, the number of BANSIC clients increased by 78% over a 12-month period. We believe that the new Food Hub has significantly contributed to the provision of food security for marginalised and vulnerable members of the Banyule community.

We are looking for new Committee Members not afraid of challenges and adaptable to changing priorities. As a valued member of the Committee you will be expected to attend monthly Committee meetings and contribute to discussions on the strategic direction of the organisation.

The Vice-President will support the President and act as proxy when the President is unavailable.

Specific Role and Responsibilities of the President (Vice-President to support or assume duties by proxy)

  • Ensure that the board operates in a manner that is conducive to the achievement of the strategic outcomes and purposes of the organisation
  • Promote a positive board culture
  • Preside over board meetings and ensure that board business is managed efficiently and effectively
  • Exemplify strong leadership, practice effective governance, and put change into motion
  • Motivate other board members to actively participate in and attend meetings
  • Ensure the actions taken are in line with Bansic’s rules, goals, and mission
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Bansic members, staff and volunteers
  • Provide insight as needed and ensure other board members are on the appropriate committees and projects
  • Assist in welcoming and onboarding new board members
  • Lead fundraising efforts by example with active participation
  • Represent the organisation when speaking to the press, media, or other external stakeholders
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Manager and responsible for managing the Manager, conducting performance reviews and ensuring quality delivery of role requirements
  • Help devise and implement a board succession plan; and review the performance of board members
