The Salvation Army St Kilda Chapel has an opportunity for a volunteer Maintenance Team member to join their friendly team.

Utilising your skills in general maintenance you will have capacity to carry out general maintenance activities including basic repairs, replacements and adjustments to furniture and equipment on site. St Kilda Chapel is looking for someone who can assist to create a safe and welcoming environment for the Corps and Community Services.

Please note, we are specifically requiring someone with Blacksmith and/or welding trade or experience for this role

We work to continually improve our surrounds with property and landscape projects to improve our building and surrounds to better run programs to serve our community.

You will have a good understanding of the importance of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and be diligent in maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Being comfortable with tools would make you a perfect fit for this meaningful volunteer role. Ability to use basic gardening and maintenance equipment is desirable but not essential as some training can be provided on site.

This desirable role would suit a trades person or experienced handyperson or someone with experience in building, construction, home renovation or someone who has been involved in the building of other community projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake general maintenance activities to a standard that will provide a welcoming experience for staff, clients and visitors 
  • Facilitate small repairs to property, buildings and fixtures as directed by site manger 
  • Co-ordinate professional trades to complete works as approved and directed by site manager

Ideally the successful candidate should possess these desirable capabilities:

  • Punctual and reliable
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to work with efficiency and accuracy
  • Experienced handyperson, tradesperson or carpenter
  • Driver’s Licence
  • A respect and willingness to work within the ethos of The Salvation Army

The successful candidate will be supported with induction and training to succeed in the role.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements For The Role

  • Experience in maintenance/trade preferred but not essential
  • A reasonable level of fitness is an inherent requirement of this role. Some heavy lifting may be required.

Mandatory Requirements Of The Role

  • Complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration, training and induction modules and any other training as required
  • A WWCC will be required for the role– TSA is a ChildSafe organisation.

Roster & Time Commitment

  • As agreed with the Manager. Shifts available 9:30am - 2:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. 
  • Please advise your availability in your expression of interest.

The successful candidate will be supported with induction and training to succeed in the role.
