Food Safety/Handling Teacher

SisterWorks is a partner of UN Women to deliver the UN Women’ Second ChanceEducation pilot project in Australia. SisterWorks provides training programs to the most vulnerable women with little English of Refugee and migrant backgrounds. As a Food Safety Teacher, you will be working with 1 other teacher to deliver the food safety content of our 8-week Cooking and Nutrition Programme. The programme is designed to teach our sisters the content and knowledge needed to sit the Food Handlers VIC Level 1 exam.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming Sister Entrepreneurs, encouraging them to know each other and ensuring they have a positive experience during the training
  • Create an engaging and interactive learning environment that our sisters can get really get involved in
  • Use available SisterWorks tools, such as learning guides, teaching guides and videos to deliver classes that focus on:
  • food safety
  • food safety hazards
  • Keeping foods safe
  • cross-contamination
  • personal health
  • Support the students in their learning and exam process

Desired experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum Food Handlers VIC certification
  • Desirable, Food Handlers Supervisor VIC
  • Prior experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to lead activities and teach others
  • Good listening and observation skills
  • Capacity to work as part of a team

This role is best suited to someone

  • with a good command of spoken and written English
  • is confident working with women of varied cultural backgrounds and limited English skills;
  • has a warm and inviting personality
  • who is organised and proactive; and
  • can work in a dynamic environment and problem solve challenges with a positive ‘can-do attitude
