Emergency Relief Volunteer

THE POSITION & OBJECTIVES Emergency Relief Workers are often the first point of contact we have with the community. They represent the face of MarionLIFE to our local community. This position is a part of a dedicated team of volunteers under the direction of a team leader and program coordinator who interview individuals, assess their needs, provide supports and record data required by our funding providers.

REPORTS TO Team Leader, who are under the direction of the Services Coordinator

SPECIFIC TASKS & DUTIES

  • Ability to listen deeply and with empathy
  • Be respectful to all people who come through our door and provide a good public image for MarionLIFE
  • Work in a team environment and independently
  • Ability to record information accurately, use of computer will be required.
  • Willingness to learn about other local organisations and services available for referral
  • Commitment to take part in individual and group training.
  • Commitment to social justice principles, and willingness to embrace the mission and aims of MarionLIFE Community Services Inc

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to Services Coordinator of MarionLIFE Community Services
  • To work with other volunteers and paid staff
  • To ensure a safe working environment
  • Adherence to MarionLIFE policies and procedures
  • Attendance at volunteer meetings and training as required
  • DHS Working with Children, and Vulnerable persons screenings (free and obtainable through MarionLIFE support)

  • Enthusiastic and empathetic approach to the work
  • Able to relate with sensitivity to a wide range of people
  • Able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Able to maintain confidentiality according to MarionLIFE policies
  • Some understanding and sensitivity to the impacts of social issues facing people experiencing food insecurity- and a willingness to ongoing learning.
  • Willingness to work towards the goals of Marion Life Community Services Inc.
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respect values that may differ from your own
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible
