Join us and have fun participating in program days with children from a refugee and asylum seeker background.  We run monthly programs which are a mix of fun and developmental activities that give our clients skills and confidence whilst allowing them to just be kids for the day!

Who will I be supporting?

• Children from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, living in the Sydney community. They may be new arrivals to Australia, or have been in Australia for a number of years
• Aged between 6 and 18 years old
• You will be able to choose which age group you want to volunteer with when you go through our induction process.

What will I do?

• Participate in a number of fun and developmental program days with your assigned client (your buddy)
• Drive clients to and from our program days (your own car required but we do provide $20 fuel vouchers)
• Supervise clients and ensure they have a great day out while learning about teamwork, inclusion and belonging.

Required Experience

• Be reliable and punctual
• Be confident, and competent in working with children
• Be committed: our clients get the most benefit from consistency. If you are only looking for one-off volunteer opportunities/tasks, ARV may not be the organisation for you. As a guide, we look for a commitment of a minimum of 4-6 programs per year. Programs are held once a month.
• Attend a half day volunteer induction to learn everything you need to know to provide our clients with a fun and safe experience
• Have a Working With Children Check (mandatory)
• We especially need volunteers who can drive clients to/from programs
