You can make a difference...

Many elderly Australians in aged care homes are socially isolated from the community. QCCN is looking for people with big hearts to visit these senior citizens and reconnect them with the community. It only takes an hour a fortnight and all you have to do is be a friend.

Residents enjoy the social visits of our volunteers. You will be matched one-on-one with a resident who has been identified as socially isolated, or at risk of becoming so. Volunteers enjoy a coffee and chat, or perhaps a board game with their new friend, and through ongoing visits create a wonderful new friendship for someone in need.

This resident in care is female and aged 93 years old. She would greatly benefit from one-on-one interaction with a Community Visitor who is able to visit her on a regular basis for friendship. This resident only has very limited visitors and as a result she is having a hard time settling into aged care after living independently for many years. Originally from England, she taught Yoga until she was 82 years of age (what an absolute star!). She has lived in both Zambia and Africa for many years, and has travelled extensively. She enjoys going for a walk in the facility gardens and doing crosswords. She has the most amazing life story!! It would be best if her volunteer could visit with her between Monday - Saturday between the times of 1pm - 4.30pm.

This resident does have a diagnosis of slight early stage impaired cognition - it is important that her prospective volunteer is comfortable in communicating and socialising with someone with dementia.

This care home has wonderful supportive staff who will assist you to make sure your volunteer journey is a successful and enjoyable experience. They will be with you throughout the process for support and guidance.

It is important to note that from 17th September, all volunteers to aged care must have had at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination with evidence to be provided to aged care facility upon your visit. This requirement has been handed down by the Federal Government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’re a small not for profit aiming to do big things! It’s our goal to try to eliminate the elderly feeling secluded whilst in residential care. To do this, we connect volunteers with the elderly so they can develop long lasting, meaningful friendships. We'd love to have you join our team if this is the kind of role you are looking for within the community!

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
