Volunteer with Kookaburra Kids! At Kookaburra Kids we appreciate, support and thank our volunteers for the assistance they provide on our programs. Volunteers form an integral part of the Kookaburra Kids team, as we couldn’t run our programs without them. Our volunteer program provides an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to participate in programs that are engaging, fun and contribute towards the positive well-being of young people’s lives in their community. In addition to the passion and energy our volunteers bring in supporting our young people, a key point of difference in the success of our program is in the flexibility we are able offer our volunteers in how they would like to volunteer.

Camps For our camps, volunteers usually arrive on site at around 4pm (or a bit later) on the Friday afternoon and stay two nights on-site at the campground, departing around 2pm on Sunday afternoon.

Volunteers stay in cabins on-site (bunk style sleeping), and are provided with a packing list and weekend schedule prior to the program! Volunteers are invited to attend an online pre-camp briefing on the Wednesday before the camp, where you can meet the camp leaders, including the Program Lead, Program Support and Camp Clinician.

During the weekend volunteers will undertake a variety of tasks including:

  • Welcoming young people and helping them settle in
  • Assisting with meal times
  • Assisting with settling young people at night – making sure everyone goes to sleep!
  • Having fun alongside young people with outdoor and indoor activities (eg. kayaking, rope climbing, arts and craft)
  • Leading our Mental Health Chat Groups (we provide training on this)
  • Letting Kookaburra Kids team members know if they are worried or concerned about any young people
  • Sharing meals and having chats with young people.
