We are looking for Youth Workers to join our Learning Project team! With Youth in Motion’s: The Learning Project, you will be providing support to at-risk and disadvantaged students. In this role you will be empowering your student and building their confidence to achieve their goals.

Organisational Background:

Youth in Motion started in 2016 as a pilot program (The Learning Project) at Naremburn School, supporting local school students who were disadvantaged or at-risk of disengaging from education. The Learning Project has continued successfully running since then. Recently, we have transitioned to an online tutoring program.

Your role:

Youth in Motion’s Youth Workers play an essential role in supporting the wellbeing of students within our program. Your main role will be to onboard new students to our tutoring program and to regularly check in with students undergoing tutoring to ensure they feel supported and that their tutors are able to effectively tutor them.

Your key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Liaising with students and their support system (parents, carers, caseworkers) to ensure the student feels supported, safe, and engaged

  • Ensure the safety of students online

  • Working with Learning Project team to identify and mitigate issues as they arise

Requirements:

  • Certification (achieved or working towards) in relevant areas (social work, youth work, counselling, psychology etc)

  • Value diversity, intersectionality, social justice, and sustainability

  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Valid Voluntary Working with Children Check and Police Check

  • Basic computer skills (Google Suite)

Desirable traits:

  • Experience with disadvantaged/at-risk youth

  • Lived experience with aspects of marginalisation or hardship

  • Experience with not-for-profit organisations, particularly with youth-focused operations

Time Commitment: Volunteering time is generally 2-3 hours per week.
