Oasis Youth Support Network is The Salvation Army’s direct response to youth homelessness in Sydney’s inner city. Providing over 20 programs and services, Oasis aims to offer critical points of intervention and support for homeless and disadvantaged young people between 16-25 years of age. One of the key services provided is transitional accommodation - Oasis Transitional Accommodation Services (OTAS).

OTAS is a semi-independent accommodation program which provides casework support to the young people involved. The aim is to empower choice, to assist young people to set their own goals and assist them in achieving them. One of the accommodation options includes Francis Street Accommodation in partnerships with St George Community Housing (SGCH). To help achieve the best outcomes for the young people participating in the program, a Volunteer Caretaker will be part of the community.

The Volunteer Caretaker role plays an important part in achieving best outcomes for the young people participating in the program. The key tasks associated with the volunteer role include:

• Attending monthly meetings with other tenants and OTAS caseworkers • Escalating any known matters to the supervisor and/or the casework team • Place site bins on the curb side for council collection weekly • Role model pro-social behaviours

The Caretaker role provides: • A studio apartment in the complex will be made available for the Volunteer Caretaker to reside in. • The volunteer will not be required to be onsite for any dedicated hours. • Completion of this volunteer role should not interfere with other responsibilities including work and study. • A lease will be held with St George Community Housing. Full terms and conditions will be articulated in the lease agreement.

Qualifications and experience requirements for the Role • Previous experience in community services and/or youth work • Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles

Mandatory Requirements of the Role • Willingness to undertake The Salvation Army’s Criminal History Record Check (at the organisation’s expense) • Willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check • Willingness to abide by relevant protocol such as Confidentiality Agreement and Business Dealings Agreement and others as required
