The role covers social support on an individual or one-on-one/couple basis and/or part of an organised group activity.

The position is part of a team of volunteers, who provide essential services to Maitland Community Care Services clients to enable them to remain living independently. The service provides highly valued social interaction and ensuring clients remain connected to community, and functional in their own life. For individual social support, the role may assist people to stay engaged in hobbies or interests, and keep mentally, emotionally and physically active. The volunteer is responsible for delivering support services in accordance with the client’s care plan and may include:

• transport and accompaniment to medical appointments
• assisted shopping
• assistance with delivery of group outings
• assistance on bus trips
• home visits (for company, a cuppa, a game etc.)
• phone calls to keep connected
• one-on-one or couples outings/visits
