The Unit Mnagers main role is to manage the functions of the unit and provide leadership and direction to all unit personnel.
- Ensure appointment of relevant unit roles and establish an appropriate reporting structure for effective management of the unit.
- Delegate responsibilities to the Deputy Unit Manager, Unit Operations Coordinator and other unit personnel as appropriate.
- Ensure effective communication within the unit, to the District Officer and to other stakeholders. Ensure that members are provided with information in a timely manner and that feedback/concerns from members are addressed and passed on to the District Officer where appropriate.
- Take steps to ensure the unit is able to effectively resource and deliver the capabilities allocated to the unit as per the unit resourcing plan.
- Where a unit role has not been filled (e.g. Unit Business Coordinator or Unit WHS Coordinator), the Unit Manager is responsible for performing or delegating the functions associated with that role.
- Ensure volunteers in the unit are appropriately trained and equipped and actively promote unit based training and skills and maintenance.
- In conjunction with the Unit Business Coordinator, manage unit finances in accordance with appropriate legislation and policies (e.g. GOSA, SAFECOM and SASES).
- Create and maintain a positive unit culture where volunteers are welcomed, engaged and supported.
- Ensure all volunteers are provided with personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Manage volunteer performance within the unit in accordance with policies and procedures as determined by the SASES.
