Who we are

Make Your Change is giving cause-driven movements an online home with a ‘one-stop shop’ for turning motivation into action. We are building a common place to share information, discover new opportunities, and collaborate to make systemic change possible.

The role

Make Your Change is seeking the assistance of web developers who can build scalable solutions to empower people with beautifully presented information. This is a great opportunity to develop technical skills whilst supporting organisations that are truly making a difference.

What your contribution could look like:

• Developing thoughtful and enigmatic dynamic templates in Elementor Pro to bring our content to life.
• Using PHP/Javascript wizardry to create deeper personalisation and more dynamic functionality.
• Developing intelligent tools that allows open contribution of content to the website.
• Helping our website to integrate with other tools like Mailchimp, Google Forms, Calendars and more.
• ...and many other tasks that support the creation of an open source movement.

Where we need help:

• Turning User Experiences designed in Figma to life using Elementor Pro.
• Developing functionality through custom PHP/JS development and extending/integrating other Wordpress plugins.
• Optimise site performance and security (cache configuration, JS/CSS optimisation, design support).
• Improve environment management and ALM processes through GIT management, development standards and testing processes.
• Support design thinking processes through helping to estimate technical effort, identifying technologies that may support the mission, and giving feedback on previous development.

You should have:

• Experience in developing, configuring or managing software and environments.
• The ability to understand written requirements and empathise with our end uses.
• The ability to work within the existing technologies, balancing custom development with maintainability and usability for non-technical users.

Whilst not essential, it would be super nice if you had:

• Wordpress development experience. Experience with Elementor Pro or similar page builders is highly desirable.
• PHP/JavaScript/SQL knowledge.
• API and middleware development experience.
• CRM integration experience.
• Database management and configuration experience.

Time Required:

We can’t build Rome in a day. Make your change has 2 types of positions to maximise the value that you can add:

• Project Developer: 2-3 days a week for 3-4 weeks, this is best for people who are in between jobs, uni-semesters, or otherwise find themselves with a block of capacity that they are looking to make a difference with.
• Core Developers: 1 day per week for 12 week, for those who are looking for a more sustained and ongoing contribution to saving the planet.

Make Your Change is ideally looking for volunteers who are able to contribute approximately 4 hours a week, in their initial 3 weeks, to help with on-boarding and systems training. Contributions after on-boarding can be more flexible but still require a commitment from you.

To succeed in the role, you should have:

• A positive, “can-do” attitude with a strong desire to help advance the climate change movement and positively promote the Make Your Change organisation.
• Attention to detail.
• Confidentiality.
• Organisation skills, with an ability to communicate progress, and stay focused on assigned tasks.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
